Ecologists declare in the Transcarpathian oblast the lime alley can die because of pests’ infection in Uzhhorod. This alley is considered to be the longest in Europe.
As the leading researcher in the Trancarpathian territory centre for plants quarantine at the Ukrainian academy of agrarian sciences, candidate of biological science Alla Sadlyack informed, in 5-7 years Uzhhorod can be deprived of tens of chestnuts which are already infected with chestnut moth.
The pest which gives the birth to 5 generations leads to the parasitic funguses and also damages the synthesis of plant organic substance (harms the leaves). According to Sadlyack, the reason of chestnut moth spreading is a low quality of leaves cleaning where pests hibernate. Besides, the chemical plant protection had not been made because of lack of financial provision.
“These problems exist, for example, in Kyiv and in Sevastopol but there are programs against the pests. We have not it now in our region. Oblast press informed in May about the threat to the longest lime alley in Europe in Uzhhorod.
Uncertain disease (we have presupposition that toxic substances have become its pathogen) damages the trees where many branches with yellow leaves are already now”, told Sadlyack.
