One-storey block of flats collapsed in Lutzk. Rescuers took two citizens from the ruins of brick wall. These people suffered from incident but were alive. Incident took place on July, 13 on Kopernika streetnot far from the centre of city.
As Chief Department of Ukraine’s Emergency Ministry in the Volyn oblast informed, three people who were grouting for strengthening foundation of old house, were alive after collapse but two of them were not able to get out of bricks.
Besides, this building could collapse one more time and gas could escape as a result of gas pipes deformation. Rescuers who had arrived at this place managed to rescue the life of workers and to bring them into the ambulance car. Gas emergency service cut off gas supply in this house and electricians cut off the light.
As doctors stated, all three males are injured severely: one had head injury, fractured ribs, head injury, the second male had fractured leg, head injury, the third male had simple fracture of right shoulder. Victims were brought to the hospital.
As house’s owner informed, this house had been built in 30s. As a result, there were big cracks on it. He decided to dig up the trench and to grout in order to strengthen the walls of his house. He wanted to build the new wall near the old one.
The foundation was dug out but heavy rains for several days eroded the ground. As a result, the wall fell down. Fortunately, bearing walls did not fell down. There was nobody within the flat and the residents of neighboring houses did not suffer from it.
